Becky and I have been planning anticipating a dream vacation for over a year now.  Becky’s family goest to Hawaii every couple of years and they invited us to join them.  I had never been to Hawaii, so you can image how much I’ve looked forward to this being a photographer and all.  So after months and months of waiting, the day finally came.

After 19 hours of flying and waiting we finally arrived in Kauai late last night.  We woke up this morning and this was my view.

After waking up, we went over to watch Julianne and her cousin skydive.  This is the plane they jumped from.

And off they go!

Fortunately, they survived.

After the skydiving, we went to Wailua Falls.

We hiked down a trail that was a little more rigorous than it looks.  My poor knees didn’t appreciate the hike very much but the experience was worth it.

And we got to see the falls from the river bottom.

We then hiked back behind the waterfall.  It was similar to hiking in the shower — but with water shooting in all directions.  Maybe goggles would have been helpful.  But behind it all was a small cave (or at least an inset in the rock) from which we could look up.  The view was fantastic.  Sadly I couldn’t bring my camera with me.

Here is the whole group mostly made up of Becky’s family and her cousins’ family.

Random shot: There’s nothing like seeing a wild bore run around on the street.

After Wailua Falls, we walked down a trail to a spot where a lot of the locals like to cliff jump and rope swing.

We then headed back to the hotel.  I snagged another quick shot from our hotel.

Next it was off to dinner at the Brick Oven pizza.

All said and done, not a bad first day in Hawaii.  I can’t wait for tomorrow.

San Diego

On our way to Hawaii, Becky and I stopped in San Diego for a night.  Our hotel had a beautiful view of the bay.  The wind conditions must have been perfect because there were countless sailboats out in the water.

Julianne Brough sings the National Anthem at the Lone Peak High School graduation on May 28, 2010. Great job!

I just went back to New York and wanted to share a few photos. I will post more when I get a chance, but here is what I have so far.

It has been a few years since I was last here. I forgot how nice it was!

This is what I do when Becky has to work late. I call up Kevin, I say, “Let’s shoot something cool!” and then we brainstorm ideas. This is what we came up with.

So this is the shot to show the setup. Yes, Kevin is scooping up water from our trash bin and launching it into the air.

The setup

And that is what I do when I am bored.

Spring is finally around the corner and I have been anxious to get out of the house and shoot. I drove by a skate park and figured I ought to go back and grab some shots.

I love RAW

RAW images are so nice to work with. Every once and a while a photographer will fire off some shots without checking their settings first. It’s even possible to alter your settings without realizing it (with the turn dial on a Canon camera). I normally would delete the image (right there on the camera) and re-shoot. While I did re-shoot, I figured I would keep this image and see what I could do with it. Digital photography has come a long way since I started in 2000. Take a look at the original vs. post-processed image. Wow!

Becky surprised me with tickets to see Brian Regan live in Salt Lake City. Brian was doing a live recording for his new CD/DVD which meant all his jokes were new. It was absolutely hilarious. My wife rocks.
